Multiorgan failure due to sepsis in Diabetic patients

There are many case studies which has shown that when the patient is diagnosed with the Diabetes Mellitus, there are many healthy chances that there will be certain other diseases which will occur in the patients who have the Diabetes Mellitus as complication. Hence, in many fatal diseases, Diabetes Mellitus plays as the independent role as the risk factor in predisposing to these diseases. Hence, among these diseases, the respiratory failure can occur in the patients which may also have the severe sepsis and in this way, the life of the patient having the Diabetes Mellitus can suffer from it.

According to the researchers in the Critical Care Journal, there is the direct relationship between the sepsis and the Diabetes Mellitus. There can be the protective effects which might have occurred in these patients, and when it happens, the compensatory mechanism of the body can work with the full force in order to save the life. According to the doctors in Emory University located in Atlanta, there are many different links between the use of the differential pressures of oxygen in the body which are then calibrated with the amount of sugar in the body, and it is quite different when the patient is suffering from Diabetes Mellitus. Hence, there are different links that are present between the oxygen, sepsis and the level of Diabetes Mellitus in the patient.

When the statistics are analyzed for the patients who are suffering from the Diabetes Mellitus, there are as much as 1489 patients that die each year because of having the sepsis and Diabetes Mellitus at the same time. The risk of having the Diabetes Mellitus along with the sepsis is reported to increase 7% by the end of 2011, and through this, there are some aggressive measures that are required to be taken for it.

Different modalities are being reported for the link between the sepsis and the Diabetes Mellitus and among these reasons; there are many things which are reported to play their part. It includes the impaired neutrophil functions in the body, differential functions of different cells, signs of infection, immunosuppressive medications, and many other things. Along with this, when the patient is having the sepsis, it is said that the blood sugar must be at the optimal level as the leucocytes need sugar in order to function properly and fighting off the infection.
